A beautiful Andalucian port city alongside the Mediterranean Sea,
Malaga is well known as the gateway to Spain’s Costa del Sol, or Sun Coast.
Established in the eighth century by Phoenician traders, the sun-washed city
is also known for its beautiful light – native son Pablo Picasso and other painters
found it the ideal place to inspire their work.
Go for Tapas in the old town, visit the Cathedral and the Alcazaba castle (see Picture) overlooking the old town
and of course Picasso's Museum is a must.
The Moors occupied Malaga until
the 15th century, and their influence can be seen at historic sites such as La Alcazaba,
a Muslim fortress built in 1057 that overlooks the city from atop a ridge.
While historic sites and museums abound, visitors should also make time to stroll
the palm-fringed boulevards, wander through the beautiful parks, and enjoy fabulous
seafood and fantastic tapas bars. And then, of course, there are the sandy beaches,
such as Marbella, that have made Malaga one of the most-visited regions of Spain.
